William Basinski -Disintegration Loops

I’ve listened to it many times, and I’m not certain I’ve listened to the whole thing yet, but it is excellent work.

For those that don’t know, apparently Mr. Basinski sat on a rooftop watching the twin towers burn, and recorded worn out tape loops until they disintegrated, and presumably stopped playing. It’s said that the sound was from pitched down easy listening records and the sort, but the result is much more effective than what it seems. I also like that this is an experimental release that received wild acclaim, maybe only because of its circumstantial symbolism, but a release that is definitely worth of it. I love listening to little fragments slowly dip out into a slow grinding motion!
