I guess I was too busy watching obscure movies for about 10–20 years, or frankly not watching movies at all, but this wave of catching up with Tarantino flicks has been more refreshing than I’d expected. The Hateful Eight has Samuel L. Jackson in good form, at the very least, and is an updated, yet western spin on the “whodunnit” trope, with plenty of violence and vulgarity to keep things interesting.
Great film, and great soundtrack by Morricone, who also used material from his soundtrack to The Thing in this one. My only real complaint is that there are some current songs that didn’t fit into this film at all. Who wants to see a guy riding a horse-drawn wagon to some mediocre indie rock stylings? Odd choice. Tomorrow is probably Django Unchained.
