Revisiting SCREAM.
Over the last few days, I have watched all 4 of the SCREAM franchise so far. I’m not actually that enthused, and I haven’t been in the mood for horror lately. It just slowly creeps in. If I go there, I normally watch old horror that is specifically either in a haunted mansion/castle, concerning a werewolf, or features general paranormal happenings that intrigue me insomuch as I like to measure the level of perceived authenticity. This is to say, aside from nostalgic ventures like Freddy and Jason, I don’t care about slasher flicks.
That said, I’ve got a soft spot for Wes Craven, even though this is clearly him dialing it in at best, and I’m still impressed by the idea of weaving a slasher film premise rife with “meta” horror analytics into some ridiculous Scooby Doo shit. If it weren’t for that, and for Neve Campbell (she seems like the only sincere actor, and I’m not just saying that because of her beauty) weaving some bad script-writing in a somewhat gracious way, this would be too much like Saved By The Bell for me. Still, I enjoy it.
