Beethoven’s 7th

For some reason, the classical station became loud static on the radio a couple of hours ago. I don’t really do classical music that much, and I can’t tell the difference between most of it. It is just ambient sound to drown out outside interruption.

I usually think about what I’m going to do when I move into my own soundproof place and get to blast things through effects all day, not to mention slow it down, pitch-bend it, etc….

but all of a sudden one of my favorite things in the world came on, and I knew it by the opening note: Beethoven’s Allegretto from his 7th Symphony. Fucking EPIC.

Many will know it from the ending of the movie IRREVERSIBLE, others will recognize it from Anton LaVey’s Satanic Mass LP. I’m sure there are plenty of other cultural references to it that I’m not remembering. I’ve known it since I bought a generic Beethoven CD from a truck stop on some road trip in the 90s. I don’t remember where we were going, but I’m sure it was a special day.
